I replaced the video card, and the system's up and humming happily.  I
don't believe this is the real fix, of course.  But I'm avoiding the
rat's nest of possibilities of what bad bus signals from a dying card
might do...

P.S. It's also sparked the idea of trying to make things play to that
(more likely to be able to do the 1366x768 of our TV) instead of the
350's TV-Out (720x576 only).  Perhaps that'll be the Easter-weekend project?
