I expect its "normal" analog cable port will work for NTL (did for me on the
PVR-350), and the s-video/composite input for Sky. The big hiccup for me (now
2 years ago) was that they become mutually exclusive---you can record from one
or the other, but not both at the same time. My original goal was to make
MythTV record stuff off basic cable if possible so we could watch things off
digital cable independently. I think I found it hard to make the basic cable
channels get chosen first, and the quality of what was there wasn't the best
for some reason (which by reflex I'd blame on NTL).

Jarod Wilson's instructions for Fedora at

are fantastic. You'll have a fully usable system at the end of it
which has the
added benefit of being armed to the teeth to do MythTV well.
I'm intrested in finding out how you fare with your DVD player...I've got a
regular CDROM in my box, but wonder how it'd do as also doing movies off DVDs
directly.
