MythTV 0.20 claims to be a uPnP server -- I think. I don't know for
sure, since I have never been able to get uPnP (or DAAP for that matter)
interoperating with a variety of devices and servers. I get the feeling
it's an awful piece of crap fake-"standard".

My best results have been:

  - using slimserver to access my mp3 collection on my linux server

  - using "esd" to play music from the laptop, over wifi, and through the
    mythbox' speakers: http://taint.org/wk/RemotePlaybackWithEsd . I
don't think my linux desktop apps support this anymore though :(

  - moving the laptop with the music on it over to the speakers, and
    plugging it in directly

failures:

  - NFS. reading mp3 metadata on a big collection over wireless NFS is a
    disaster.

  - uPnP, DAAP (see above).
