How disheartening.  I've lost the day to not getting tv-out to work
properly.

One strange lead was discovering I need to do (using a new command
v4l2-ctl) the step
   /usr/bin/v4l2-ctl -s pal-i --set-fbuf=global_alpha=0,local_alpha=1
after I've loaded the saa7127 driver in order for it to display properly.

That works if I want to do
  cat foo.mpeg > /dev/video16

Both sound and video work.  However, I'm still failing to get X to come up.

I may try this all again on another day using etch instead of 7.10/gutsy.

I can't believe it's still this difficult.  BIG points lost for me...I
shouldn't be stuck using a 3+ year-old system because I got it to work
enough after pulling my hair out.
