Don't know if you've tried this, but one thing I found useful when
trying to get my mini-itx up and running was to boot from a usb key
with Puppy Linux [1] or DSL [2]. These distros have a number of
diagnostic tools to see if there's something wrong with the hardware,
or they will at least let you look at the filesystem to see if there's
any obvious problems with your machine. Plus you have the advantage
you don't have to wipe your system if you don't have to.
