Trying this morning, I remembered why I'd given up ... trying to display 
via the VGA cable, the TV was showing "Mode not supported".  Trying 
other Modelines and ultimately the other Monitor entry (loaded with 
Modelines I'd tried) got past that and finally made it work.  I gave up 
too early before I think.
